Abstract
Virtually half of Mexico is arid or semiarid and is largely unsuitable for conventionally irrigated agriculture. The nation nevertheless has resolved to increase productive acreage in these regions. Success will require careful crop selection and development of innovative, adaptive cultivation systems. Establishment of a new crops and agrisystems center in Mexico is one strategy for demonstrating the feasibility of selected crops and techniques. -Authors
