Abstract

The quadrupole mass filter can be implemented in one of several operational modes. The present work describes the theory, construction, and operation of a unique mass rejection mass filter. In contrast to previous frequency tuned mass rejection filters, the position of the present filter is shown to be easily tuned by adjustment of the amplitude of the r.f. potential used to excite the electrode structure.
