Abstract

A biopsychosocial perspective fits the human health response/care model of nursing and has the potential for creating useful basic knowledge for generating both descriptive and prescriptive theories from a nursing perspective. The benefits of such an approach include more comprehensive, individualized assessment and diagnostic potential, expanded correlate patterns to predict health vulnerability and risk, expanded therapeutic options and greater potential for targeting therapy and individualizing prescriptions - all of which would improve the professional practice of nursing.
