Abstract
This chapter presents the uses of noncarbohydrate aldehydes and ketones as chiral auxiliaries. These auxiliaries have principally been used as components of acetals and ketals for modification of the diol component. Some coverage of thioketals, aminals, and imines is included. Acetals and ketals derived from carbohydrates, or from enantiomerically pure diols and the like, are not covered in this chapter.
